THE CONSUMER Affairs Commission (CAC) has revealed that it successfully cleared up 92 per cent of the 1,840 complaints it received between April 2005 and February of this year.
CAC Chairman Norris Crooks said yesterday that the consumer protection body has also recovered just under $16 million in refunds and compensation on behalf of customers.
Crooks was speaking during the observance of World Consumer Rights Day at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston.
REFUNDS
Yesterday, the CAC also disclosed that the majority of the complaints received were in the furniture, appliance and electronic category. The commission said, however, that the bulk of the refunds came from the automobile category where $9.61 million dollars was refunded to consumers.
He also noted that among the CAC's successes was the recall of several children's strollers made from poor quality material, and faulty motorcycle helmets which were taken off the market last year.
World Consumer Rights Day was yesterday, observed under the theme, 'Energy: Sustainable Access for all consumers.'
