Hot Mona move closer to Grace Shield final
published: Thursday | March 16, 2006

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

MONA ARE just a win away from creating history in the Grace Shield Premier League following their 38-run win over Meadow-brook at Mona yesterday.

In their opening semi-final round match, Mona, led by captain Keron Davis' third century of the season - 104, carried them closer to the final, which would make them the first losing A League team to do so.

Davis struck 14 fours and four sixes to lead Mona to 190, thus setting Meadowbrook 228 to win but they fell 38 runs short.

Mona now have a maximum five points.

Robert Williams (4-39) and Richard Smith (4-41) took the most wickets for Meadowbrook.

In Meadowbrook's second innings of 191, Williams top scored with 40 against some fine bowling from Jamiel Austin (4-40) and Dwayne Burbles (4-29).

Scores in the two-day match: Mona 167 and 190; Meadow-brook 130 and 191.

FIRST INNINGS TIE

At Tarrant: The hosts and defending champions Eltham played to a first innings tie in a rain-affected match. The teams picked up two points each.

Chasing Eltham's first innings of 220, Tarrant fell for the same score against Frederick Hermitt (7-61) and Sandre Watson (2-35).

Shamar Anderson, 49, and Kirk Swaby, 39, got the most runs for Tarrant.

In their second turn at the crease, Eltham led through Shacoya Thomas' knock of 94 and Watson's 36.

Scores: Eltham 220 and 147-3; Tarrant 220.

HEADLEY CUP

Many-time champions STETHS took first innings points from defending champions Holmwood.

Chasing 110 for first innings points and resuming on 85-5, STETHS got to 150. National youth player Damion Ebanks got 57 against the likes of Ziggy Levy (4-39) and Marlon Johnson (2-12).

Batting a second time, Holmwood were 109-7. Andre McCarthy got 39 while Linton Buchanan claimed 2-27.

Holmwood still lead the group following their massive innings and 18-run win over Glenmuir with five points, despite not getting any points from yesterday's game.
