Howard Walker, Staff ReporterLEADERS MEADHAVEN host second-place Santos in a potential title decider as the Jamaica National/KSAFA Super League continues today at 3:30 p.m..
In the other matches: Greenwich Town tackle Bull Bay, Meadhaven United host Santos, Maverley/Hughenden travel to play the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), August Town welcome Shortwood United, Rae Town take on Mountain View and Police National versus Barbican at Shortwood College.
With seven rounds remaining, newly-promoted Meadhaven must have their eyes set on the premier league play-off which is very much in their hands.
The youthful Meadhaven aggregation sits on 31 points, three ahead of Santos on 28 points and a win today will go a far way in realising that dream.
But coach David Hunt says he is not thinking about the title now but just taking one game at a time.
"What we are concentrating at is one game at a time. We didn't start very well but we have picked up and are concentrating on each game. If we do what we are capable of doing then we have a chance," said Hunt.
The last time both teams met Meadhaven won 1-0, but Hunt knows today's game will be very tough.
"Every team that we play now will be a monster game. It will be a very competitive game between the two teams that are at the top. We are going to be playing the football we have been playing all season," noted Hunt, also the national Under-17 head coach.
Meanwhile, Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis, coach of Santos, knows how important a game this will be.
"This might be a championship decider. Meadhaven have beaten us already for the season. But now we are more focused and ready to go and if we don't win tomorrow we are going to make it difficult for ourselves," he pointed out.
"You have to respect the Meadhaven team because they are a young team and doing very well. But we are going there to look three points, that's the only solution," added Dennis.
Third-place August Town on 25 points should get the better of Shortwood United, rooted to the bottom on four points.
Maverley, also on 25 points, should recover from the Red Stripe Champions Cup quarter-final elimination with a victory over sixth-place JDF on 21 points.
Fifth-place Police National on 24 points have a tough test against Barbican, while the clash between the struggling teams Greenwhich Town and Bull Bay can go either way.
Mountain View, fresh from their 3-1 win over JDF, should continue their winning ways over Rae Town.
