WHITEHORSE'S UPLIFTMENT last Saturday night edged Sandstar 1-0 to capture the St. Thomas Captain's Bakery Major League mid-season football title.

The first half was goalless, although Gregory Miller got a glorious chance to put Upliftment in front just before the break in the final played at York Oval.

The winner came in the 64th minute when Christopher Davis hit an attempted clearance past his goalkeeper.

Towards the end of the half, Miller got an easy chance to score in the 80th minute but squandered it.

Two minutes from time, substitute Taffarie Edwards' free kick from 22 yards was denied by the upright.

The champions received three bonus points, the mid-season final trophy and $12,000, which was handed over by Wayne Soltau, a Captain's Bakery executive.

Sandstar received $8,000 for their efforts.

Meanwhile, action in the league continues today with two matches.

Sandstar take on Heartease at Phillips field while Danvers Pen tackle Upliftment at Danvers Pen. Both matches begin at 3:30 p.m.

Three matches will also be played on Wednesday: Prospect face Lyssons at Cotton Tree, Paul Bogle take on Kool Cat at York Sports complex while Yallahs play Real Morant at Phillips field.

Meanwhile, in the parish's Division Two Southhaven face Seaforth at Southhaven and Unity Vibes take on Delta Force at Golden Valley on Tuesday.
