AFTER REACHING an agreement less than a week ago, more trouble may be brewing between the West Indies Alumina Company (Windalco) and the National Workers' Union (NWU).
Norman DaCosta, NWU vice-president, is demanding that Windalco issue an assurance, in writing, to the union that it will not release any of its delegates during its upcoming redundancy exercise.
INTERVENTION
The union and the company reached an agreement last Thursday after 21 months of dispute following an intervention by Prime Minister-designate Portia Simpson Miller. The intervention concluded after 32 hours of negotiations.
Managing director of Windalco, Michael Collins, argued that Mr. DaCosta's new grouse is unrelated to the agreement reached between the two parties.
He said that the company's redundancy programme was something it was addressing up to late last year, but it was put aside because of the negotiations.
