Businessman's charred remains found
published: Wednesday | March 22, 2006

THREE WEEKS after businessman Ewart Alphanso Hylton went missing, the burnt remains of his body was discovered Monday afternoon in bushes off the Cambridge Hill main road in St. Thomas.

"The bones have burnt to ashes, it is not a good sight. However, we are still trying to conduct a DNA test," Acting Deputy Superintendent of Police Carlos Bell told The Gleaner yesterday.

Police reports say Mr. Hylton's body was found in his burnt BMW X5 SUV. Residents spotted the vehicle about 11:00 a.m., then alerted the police.

LAST SEEN ALIVE

ACP Bell said forensic experts visited the scene yesterday. Popularly known as 'Gold Teeth', Mr. Hylton was last seen alive by a medical doctor who reportedly owed him money.

The doctor has been questioned on at least two occasions by the police and released.

Allegations are that Mr. Hylton left his St. Andrew home on February 28 with the doctor.

A relative who spoke with The Gleaner recently explained that Mr. Hylton loaned the doctor the money more than one year ago. Based on the arrangement, the loan should have been repaid in January.

According to the relative, the doctor took Mr. Hylton to Cross Roads in Kingston, where he was to have repaid him.
