published: Friday | March 24, 2006

Billie-Jean Campbell, Miss Razor Performance.

The Gleaner continues to profile the contestants in the 2006 Miss Jamaica Universe pageant. The finals will be held on Sunday, March 26, at the Hilton Kingston hotel, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Name: Billie-Jean Campbell

Age: 20

Statistics: 38-26-40

Height: 5' 11"

Occupation: Student

Sponsor: Miss Razor Performance.

DG: Why did you decide to enter the competition?

BC: I decided to enter the competition because I've been encouraged on a daily basis to do so. I think I have what it takes to be an ambassador for my country.

DG: What is your definition of a beauty queen?

BC: I think it is someone who is beautiful, sexy, intelligent and a dedicated God-fearing person.

DG: What do you expect to achieve by entering the competition?

BC: By entering this competition, I expect to achieve exposure and also to develop my confidence.

DG: What is your best asset?

BC: My height, because this is a beauty contest and as it relates to modelling and on the international scene, height is always an asset in modelling.

DG: How would you sell Jamaica to a foreigner, in light of the high crime rate?

BC: Despite our high crime rate, Jamaica is the most beautiful Caribbean island. It is a place where you can go and totally relax. We have great food, our food is wonderful, our beaches and not to mention our climate.

DG: What do you love the most about Jamaica?

BC: Our food.

DG: If you could meet one person, who would it be and why?

BC: It would be Portia Simpson Miller, because I admire her strength as a woman and in today's society that is really one in a million.

DG: If you win, what sector of the society would you work with?

BC: I would choose education, because I think that our youths need more education opportunities.

DG: If you were the Prime Minister, what changes would you make and how?

BC: I would restructure our education programmes. I would try to make education as free as the country could afford to make it. I would also try to create more job opportunities and I would do that by using more land in the rural areas to build factories and that sort of thing.

DG: What do you hope to achieve in five years?

BC: I want to be a neurosurgeon - one of the best neurosurgeons ever.
