Murder accused returns to court
published: Monday | March 27, 2006

THIRTY-NINE-YEAR-OLD MICHAEL McLean, the man charged with the murder of six members of a family in St. Thomas, is to return to court on April 12.

On Friday when Mr. McLean appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court he was remanded.

During the hearing, Mr. McLean complained to Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle that he did not have a lawyer because the police had denied him a phone call to get one.

However, the police have denied the allegation.

LEGAL AID ASSIGNMENT

In the meantime, RM Gayle has ordered legal aid assignment for Mr. McLean whose case was transferred from St. Thomas to Kingston becasue of security reasons.

Mr. McLean was deported to Jamaica from the United States in September 2001.

He is charged with the murder of Patrice George-McCool, 28; Sean Chin, Jr, nine; Lloyd Marshall George McCool, three; Jihad George McCool, seven; Jesse O'Gilvie, nine; and Terry-Ann Mohammed, 40, all of Duhaney Pen, St. Thomas.

The six who were murdered on February 26 were buried last week Sunday.
