THE AROMA of escoveitch sauce and fried fish filled the air leading to Link's Seafood Restaurant and Bar in Yallahs, St. Thomas, last Sunday. The savoury aroma came from the Kiwanis Club of St. Thomas' annual fish fry. In tune with the Lenten season, escoveitch, steamed, fried and roast fish were available with festival, bammy, rice, tossed salad and fish soup.

Pots and pans were put to the fire from the wee hours of the morning. Yet, hands were not enough to quickly serve the approximately 250 persons, including those from at least seven other Kiwanis clubs, in attendance. Hence, some patrons had to wait for at least half an hour to be served. Seven hours after the fish fry had commenced, 270 pounds of fish were devoured.

An entertainment segment consisting of karaoke, fashion show, spot prizes and a 'strong man' contest (men lifting gym weights of various sizes), kept patrons entertained.

The fish fry is one of the club's annual fund-raising events to generate finances for its many charitable activities.
