A WORLD away from King's House yesterday afternoon, residents of Portia Simpson Miller's inner city South West St. Andrew constituency were expectant of better times under the new Prime Minister.
With the ceremony beginning live on national television at 5:00 p.m., the big screen promised to the Haile Selassie High School in Tavares Gardens had yet to turn up. However, while inside the electoral centre located on the school compound, officials watched on their portable television.
OTHER CAUSE FOR JOY
Inside the office there remained other cause for joy. According to constituency registration clerk, Dorcas Cain, Mrs. Simpson Miller's elevation was inspiring record voter registration and reverification. When the office closed at 5:00 p.m., Mrs. Cain reported that on the day, 28 new voters had registered and a further 30 reverified; all subject to evaluation.
"I'm looking forward for great things for this constituency. She (Mrs. Simpson Miller) made that promise that she would start from home and we are looking for that. I've known her for 20 years and I'm proud," Mrs. Cain said.
Derrick Lewin from the Whitfield Town community was ecstatic: "Yeah man, I feel powerful and I pray to the almighty for Sista P win fi di poor, the have-nots and the unfortunate."
