THE EDITOR, Sir:
I USE this opportunity to say congratulations and 'Hail up Sister P' to our new Prime Minister, the Honourable Portia Lucretia Simpson Miller. The people of Jamaica are expecting the unexpected, the improper to be made proper, the incorrect to be corrected, the corrupt to be uncorrupted, the un-united to be united, the unloved to be loved, prosperity and productivity where there is poverty and no productivity, employment where there is unemployment, security for insecurity, all potholed roads to be fixed, everything and for some even nothing.
In short, she is expected to be the first Grammy and gold medal winning Prime Minister and to reach that goal faster than the great Asafa Powell, Sherone Simpson or a Veronica Campbell. According to Bob Marley "Some people got facts and claims, some people got pride and shame, some people got the plots and schemes, some people got no aim it seems."
'Sister P', we are survivors; let us sprint with it.
She cannot do it alone. She now has the baton, but there has never been a successful one-person relay. All those around her, the population included, are what team Jamaica means. In our homes, communities, private or public organisations, we must do whatever it takes to make this a better place.
All the best Prime Minister Honourable Portia Lucretia Simpson Miller.
I am, etc.,
