Re GCT on telephone bills
published: Saturday | April 1, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM just horrified to learn that General Consumption Tax on telephone bills is at a rate of 20 per cent. All these years I have been paying 20 per cent tax on my bills unknowing to me. I would presume there are others like myself.

The Finance Minister's brain is obviously tired. To have a telephone is normal in any country. Is he saying that a phone is luxury? It comes as no surprise to me that he only received 200 votes in the presidential election.

This should be a wake up call for the minister and he should do the right thing and resign, in order to make Mrs. Portia Simpson Miller's job easier.

In other countries, ministers with integrity resign their position whenever something goes wrong that falls under their ministry, even though that minister is far from being responsible, but in Jamaica, one will never see that.

If Mrs. Miller allows you to continue as Finance Minister, it will only be the 'same ole' and God have mercy on us all!

I am, etc.,

VERY CONCERNED

CITIZEN
