Restoring the Ward Theatre
published: Saturday | April 1, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE JAMAICAN Historical Society joins The Gleaner (Editorial, March 1, 2006), the Ward Theatre Foundation (Letter of the Day, March 11, 2006) and the Georgian Society of Jamaica (letter to the editor, March 14, 2006) in appealing to the Government and the private sector of Jamaica to help restore the Ward Theatre.

As your editorial so clearly pointed out, the Ward is a gift to the city of Kingston, and it is indeed the premier theatre building in the island.

The usefulness of the building, if restored, in an area that will be revitalised, is obvious.

We should not allow this landmark to further deteriorate, but should restore it to a condition of which we can be proud.

I am, etc.,

CHARMAINE MCKENZIE

President, Jamaican

Historical Society
