I SAT and watched Prime Minister Patterson's last speech in Parliament on Tuesday. I listened to the different members of both sides of the House give their reflections of the longest-serving Prime Minister of Jamaica. I observed that at its completion and after his reply, he made his walk through the door. He will never return as the Prime Minister. This is like death. The moment that breath exited the body, there is no return. Your spirit will live on but you cannot change the hand of time or destiny.
Mr. Patterson brought me back to my teenaged days studying the poem 'the entire world is a stage' by Shakespeare, where every player has to make his exit. Strangely, a tear ran down my cheeks. The same thing happened when Mr. Seaga made his move. Some folks are fooling themselves that things will remain the same. This is a new era. This is the first time in our history that we do not have any ruler from the immediate post-independence period.
Foresight got an invitation to go to the swearing-in ceremony. However, since I am a hustler, I could not give up my day to travel such distance from Hanover. The ceremony, I assumed, went well. I heard that the Leader of the Opposition and his wife had problems with seats and left. I note that the Prime Minister and members of the organising committee for Thursday's ceremony have apologised to the Leader of the Opposition. I wouldn't leave and the matter in the media creates a vibe which has no positive long-term effect. We all know that Madame Prime Minister will never leave him out of anything like that. Congratulations, Madame Prime Minister and just gwan duh yu ting.
TOM FOOLS DAY
Today is Tom Fools Day or All Fools Day. I do not like the name 'all fools' since it is not all of us who will be tricked. I know that I am an idiot but not a fool. From I was a child, friends have been trying to fool me on that day. I always managed to switch the game around and get the last laugh. Please do not run any serious joke since the joke might get too serious. If you are going to trick anyone, do not do it with your partner or family. These are the people who just you the most.
Accidents. I am watching that very closely. First my daughter's hand got burnt over the weekend. It is of great importance that parents teach toddlers about heat before they actually feel it. Some will prefer to feel it and then learn. I had a near miss by a crazy driver yesterday on Spur Tree Hill. Then, about a minute after, a red car ran into a truck. About five minutes after, a silver Honda overtook me around a corner and slammed into a truck. About five minutes after, I watched four mongooses cross the road without being killed on Spur Tree Hill. I just heard about a fatal accident, including children in Manchester. Please be careful on the wet road.
