WESTERN BUREAU:

THE MONTEGO Bay-based MASS Distributors, under the direction of Mary Miller-Lodge, has gained the sole distributor rights to the renowned Dudley's line of cosmetics and hair products.

At last Saturday's official ceremony in Montego Bay, the company opened its doors to the public, who were treated to free make-up and hair consultations from representatives of Dudley's Products Incorporated.

REACHING MORE CLIENTS

Terrie Clawson, vice-president of National and International Sales at Dudley's Products Incorporated, said the company was excited at the two-fold prospect of reaching more clients by direct marketing and empowering the wider community.

"Our clientele is growing. Often money comes into our communities and within 45 minutes it goes out because we do not own the businesses. By marketing to the cosmetologists we are empowering our communities and that is a Dudley's tradition," Ms. Clawson told Flair.

"Dudley's has been in Jamaica for over 12 years, but this is our very first beauty centre in Jamaica."

Throughout the day, scores of current and prospective clients were pampered by Done Wiliness, international educator based in Washington, and Betty Mekonnen, Ethiopian make-up artist.

Mrs. Miller-Lodge, who has been affiliated with Dudley's for the past eight years, explained that her company would be aiming to assist women to maintain the beauty regimen outside of scheduled salon visits. The products were available solely to professional cosmetologists, but with changing market conditions, and with consumers finding salon care expensive, a direct approach was chosen.

"We have to target these people as well as the cosmetologists. This is the strategy the company is taking in the United States. We are excited about this move, " she said.
