Portia an inspiration to women
published: Monday | April 3, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD like to take this medium to offer my sincere congratulations to the new Prime Minister, Mrs. Portia Simpson Miller. She is not only the seventh Prime Minister of Jamaica, the number seven signifying totality and perfection, but also the 12th woman leader in the world, this number signifying the number connected with the government in the heavens and the earth (for example, Twelve Tribes of Israel and 12 apostles governing Jesus' ministry in his absence).

She is the first Jamaican leader that I know of who has begun her reign with prayer to God. He will work through her powerfully if she remains close to Him.

She is an inspiration to us women and shows that with determination and perseverance being a strong part of our character, we will be able to meet our goals.

Her humble and grateful attitude since being named the Prime Minister's successor is something which has gained my admiration for her and also Asafa Powell.

She is a great example for us to follow and I look forward to assisting her in any way possible to building Team Jamaica.

I am, etc.,

ROSE HARRIOTT
