Lara moves up in world rankings
published: Monday | April 3, 2006

LONDON, England (CMC)

WEST INDIES batting star Brian Lara is up one place to number six in the LG International Cricket Council (ICC) Rankings while Ricky Ponting and Muttiah Muralitharan retained their top spots in the batting and bowling rankings, respectively.

Following a rating adjustment after the drawn Colombo Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan late last week, Lara climbed one place up from seventh and Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf also moved up one - to seventh - while his teammate Younis Khan dipped two places to number eight.

Ponting, who is currently leading his Australian side in the third Test against South Africa in Johannesburg, retains number one over his teammate Matthew Hayden and South African Jacques Kallis, who share number two.

NO CHANGE TO TOP FIVE

Pakistan's Inzamam-ul-Haq is fourth and India's Rahul Dravid is fifth in no change to the top five.

The West Indies have three other players in the batting top-30 - Shivnarine Chanderpaul at 18th, Chris Gayle (24th), and Ramnaresh Sarwan (29th).

Muralitharan heads the bowling list over two Australians - Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath, while South African Makhaya Ntini is ranked fourth and England's Matthew Hoggard fifth.

Corey Collymore, at 23rd, and Pedro Collins (28th) are the only two West Indians in the bowlers' top-30 list.
