KINGSTON AND Lucas registered the only outright wins on yesterday's final day of the Supreme Ventures two-day Super Cup.
Kingston beat Westmoreland by 120 runs at Sabina Park while Lucas, which welcomed back Christopher Gayle from West Indies duties in New Zealand, picked up their first win of the competition - a nine-wicket demolition of Portland at Nelson Oval.
At Sabina Park: Victory for Kingston was set up by impressive centuries on the opening day by Nehemiah Perry (101 not out) and Roland Holder (108). The two received good support from Duran Whyte (61) and Terry Scott (54 not out) in taking Kingston to 355-5 declared.
WRECKED
Westmoreland went to a wet bed at 48 for four and were wrecked for 146 by Fabian Forbes who took five wickets for 31 runs. Dwayne Ewan top scored for Westmoreland with 35.
Following on, Westmoreland were skittled out for 89. Andrew Richardson 3-22 and Audley Sanson 3-27 were the main destroyers.
At Nelson Oval: Lucas, replying to Portland's 168 all out, scored 182-7 declared. Delroy Morgan struck 84 and Gary Herbine 27 not out against Carl Brissett 5-49.
Batting a second time, Portland made 165 all out with Crafton Clarke falling six short of a century. Gayle claimed five for 51.
Needing 151 for victory, Lucas got to their total with the loss of Wayne Gayle for a duck. Chadwick Walton top scored with 86 not out while Royan Smith was unbeaten on 62.
AT CHEDWIN PARK: Leaders St. Catherine surrendered first innings points to Melbourne. However, this was not before leg spinner Bevan Brown claimed match figures of nine for 87. Brown, who moved his tally to 37 wickets in the season, bagged 5-52 on Saturday's opening day and then had a 4-35 return yesterday.
RUN-SCORERS
Melbourne batted first and made 202, and then dismissed St. Catherine for 200. Damion Bryce, who made 51 on Saturday and Keith Hibbert, 41, scored most for St. Catherine against Damion Jacobs (5-35) and Ramon Hutchinson (3-52).
Batting a second time, Melbourne made 208 for nine declared, 63 of which came from the bat of Carlton Baugh Jnr. St. Catherine were 44 without loss at the end.
At Up Park Camp: The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) took first innings points from St. Mary in their drawn encounter. On Saturday, St. Mary piled up 296 all-out to which JDF had replied with 12 without loss at stumps. Mel Wint and Melvin Wallace were at the crease. The soldiers returned yesterday to compile 306 all out. Wint got 95, Wallace, 35, and Damion Gray 35 against the bowling of Ian McLeod 5-106.
