ST LUCIA: St Lucia moving to deal with bird flu
published: Tuesday | April 4, 2006

CASTRIES, ST. LUCIA (CMC):

St. Lucia has begun activating provisions of a plan, developed with the assistance of the Caribbean Epidemiological Centre, to deal with a possible outbreak of the deadly bird flu epidemic.

"Once it is established or suspected that there is the presence of the influenza, this would result in the location being quarantined, and a team of technical people would then move in to coordinate activities, thereby removing the risk of transmission," said chief medical officer Dr. Stephen King.
