Kingston College keep the cup
published: Tuesday | April 4, 2006

KINGSTON COLLEGE (KC) and Holmwood Technical were yesterday confirmed as boys and girls winners of the 2006 VMBS/ISSA Boys' and Girls Athletics Championships, which ended at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Following a recount, the points tallied remained the same as KC (233.5) held on to their two-point win ahead of Calabar (231.5), Jamaica College (139.33), Wolmer's (118.5), St. Jago (97), Herbert Morrison (71), Camperdown (79), Holmwood (60), Bridgeport (55) and Munro (46.5).

In the girls' section, Holmwood (319) won ahead of Vere (302.5), Edwin Allen (235), Manchester (187), Immaculate (83), Alpha (77.5), St. Andrew (72.5), Wolmer's (69), St. Jago (66) and Wolmer's (69).

TIGHT FINISH

It is customary procedure for the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) to recount the points tallied by the schools, especially in situations where the top teams have a tight finish.

Meanwhile, according to an release sent yesterday by the Inter-Secondary School Sports Association (ISSA), KC's Alain Bailey and Manchester High's Natoya Goule were named overall champion boy and girl respectively.

Bailey tallied 25 points for his victories in the triple jump and high jump and second in the triple jump, while Goule won the Class Three 800m and 1500m, along with the 300m open.

POINTS

However, based on points accumulated, Holmwood's Rosemarie White who won the girls' Class One long jump and heptathlon and finished second in the triple and third in the 100m hurdles, should have been given 31 points, but instead got 22.

Bases on ISSA's tabulation, White was only given nine points to win the long jump, seven for second in the triple jump, and six for third in the 100m hurdles.

White (22 points) and Bailey (25) were the top athletes in Class One; Vere's Kimberly Williams (22) and Munro's Omar Bryan (18) came out on top in Class Two, while Goule (27) and Herbert Morrison's Tivaskie Lewin (19) topped Class Three.

Manchester's Orenthia Bennett (18) took the Class Four girls award.
