Harbour View slip against lowly Wadadah
published: Tuesday | April 4, 2006

Nodley Wright, Freelance Writer

HAYLES

HARBOUR VIEW surrendered the lead they held over Waterhouse on a head to head clash, following a 2-2 draw with lowly Wadadah in the late game of a Wray and Nephew National Premier League double-header at Jarrett Park on Sunday night.

Wadadah, in ninth place on 31 points, rallied from two goals down to secure the draw and Donovan Hayles, coach of Harbour View which once held a 15-point lead this season, was justly disappointed.

The draw put his team on 60 points, two adrift Waterhouse which, ironically, rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Reno 3-2 on a last-minute goal earlier Sunday.

"We came for a win and it is unfortunate that we did not get it. The players did not play up to par but nonetheless we are happy for the draw. What this means is that we will have to work harder to get back the lead," he said.

SATISFIED

Wadadah's Anthony "Follies" Williams was generally satisfied with the result.

"My players rose to the occasion. The only misfortune is that they did not convert more of the chances we created but I am happy with the draw," said Williams, who added that there was room for improvement.

While not looking their efficient best, Harbour View managed to jump into a 2-0 lead through strikes from Lovel Palmer in the 31st minute and Richard West in the 43rd.

Palmer reacted quickly on or about the penalty spot to head home a free-kick curled in from just outside the 18-yard box. West capitalised on a defensive error to fire home from close range.

Wadadah, despite the deficit, were never out of the game and went into the half-time break just one goal behind. Defender William Richards, in an attempt to clear a Wadadah corner, headed into his own net.

Wadadah had the better of play in the second half but failed to make their better play count. Just when it appeared as if time was running out on them, Jermaine Anderson finished off a lovely build-up which he started. It involved Rohan Reid and Daniel Ricketts, who made the final pass.

Wadadah should have sealed the win when Reid in time added, struck the left upright with only Thompson to beat.

In the opening game, MoBay's Seba United put on a masterful display to whip Arnett Gardens 4-0.

A double apiece from Wilfred Smith and strike partner Kemar James provided the blows which condemned Arnett Gardens to that huge defeat. Smith opened the scoring in the 42nd minute from a direct attack and added a second in the 56th minute. James scored his first in the 62nd minute before sealing the win in the 76th minute.
