Eltham in charge of Grace Shield showdown
published: Wednesday | April 5, 2006

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Eltham have the ascendancy entering today's final day of their three-day Grace Shield Premier League final against Jamaica College (JC) at Melbourne Oval.

Replying to Eltham's 402, JC were 72-1 when rain stopped play in the post-tea session.

Eltham's coach, Oral Simpson, said he was comfortable with his team's position.

"I know that we are in the driver's seat because for JC to get 403, I know that's impossible," Simpson said.

"Getting a fair day tomorrow, I know we will win on first innings. We have the bowlers to do the job," he said.

Resuming on 298 for six with Andre Scott, 46, and Joel Bailey, 46, at the crease, Eltham lost the former who failed to add to his overnight score.

However, Bailey carried on to score 59 and with Simeon Lewis, 39 not out, Eltham got past 400.

Oliver Walker (2-42) and Narry Barry (2-36) took the most wickets for JC.

Walker and captain Mark Robinson, 25 each, will resume JC's fight this morning.

JC's coach, David Robert-son, said he is "very confident" his boys can get the required total.

"We can get there. We have a very strong batting line-up, I think we are up to the task," Robertson said.
