COMEDIAN GEORGE Lopez, director Robert Rodriguez and singer Shakira were among the nominees for the 2006 ALMA Awards, which honour artistic achievement by Hispanics in music, television and film.
Singer Marc Anthony and actor Andy Garcia will receive special recognition at the ALMA Awards, the National Council of La Raza announced Tuesday.
The organisation created the ALMA Awards in 1995 to promote positive images of Hispanics in entertainment. Awards will be presented in 15 categories at a ceremony May 7 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria will host the programme, which is scheduled to air June 5 on ABC.
