St Catherine seal semi-final spot
published: Thursday | April 6, 2006

ST. CATHERINE High grabbed the final available Under-19 semi-final spot when they turned back Jamaica College 76-63 as action in the KFC/ISSA All-Island national basketball championships continued yesterday at the National Stadium courts.

The game, which had been rescheduled due to inclement weather on Tuesday, was a duel of the guards as St Catherine's Javan Bailey and Jamaica College's Keinan Ceasar looked to will their teams into the final four.

Although it would be Ceasar who came out on top in terms of scoring, as he netted 34 points and grabbed nine rebounds, it was Bailey who pushed his team across the finish line first with 32 points, seven assists and an impressive six steals.

SHOWDOWN

Southern Conference top guns St. Catherine have now set up yet another showdown between themselves and Southern Conference runners-up Wolmer's Boy's on Saturday.

It was St Catherine who triumphed 2-1 when the teams met each other in the keenly contested best-of-three finals. But the season series between the teams stands at 2-2 as Wolmer's defeated St. Catherine at the start of the second round.

In the first Under-19 semi-final set for today, St. Jago will take on Old Harbour at the National Stadium.

Yesterday's Under-16 game between Ardenne and St George's had to be called off in the third quarter due to rain, Ardenne led 27-26. The game will be replayed today along with the other Under-16 semi-final between Calabar and Belair.
