Government, nurses will reach agreement, says Jackson
published: Friday | April 7, 2006

FITZ JACKSON, State Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Planning, says he is confident that his ministry will come to an agreement with the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ), which announced that it will not enter into another memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government.

"I have had a long relationship with the NAJ and I am certain that, out of a sheer commitment to serve Jamaica, we will resolve whatever real and perceived difficulties there might be," he told The Gleaner.

"I am not perturbed by the pronouncements; they will be resolved."

Mr. Jackson made the comments Monday following the swearing-in ceremony for junior ministers at King's House.

The NAJ is one of several public sector trade unions, which the Government is hoping will sign another agreement soon. The first was signed in 2004.

However NAJ president, Edith Allwood-Anderson, said that based on instructions from its members, it would not enter into another MoU.
