Public servants appear in court
published: Friday | April 7, 2006

Sacha Walters, Staff Reporter

SEVEN CASES for brea-ches of the Corruption Prevention Act came up for mention in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court Wednesday.

The Corruption Prevention Act of 2001, makes it compulsory for public servants earning in excess of $2 million to make annual declarations to the Corruption Prevention Commission.

Such workers include mem-bers of the security forces.

The annual declarations must state income level, assets and liabilities.

CASES BEFORE THE COURTS

If the declarations are not made by December 31, public servants are given until March 31 of the following year to do so.

The cases now before the courts include persons who worked at the National Works Agency, a retired police officer and a Councillor of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation.

Some of the individuals brought their receipts to prove that they had now filed their returns.

Others were given until May 9 to get their affairs in order when the outstanding cases will again be mentioned.
