Bank on Prior Park

SI MI TRIAL, the first of five winners for leading jockey Charles Hussey, holds on well to win the fifth race over 1200 metres (overnight allowance) in a driving finish from JUST SOME THOUGHTS (Dal Brown), at Caymanas Park last Saturday. A winning favourite at 2-5, SI MI TRIAL is owned by Edison Chai trained by reigning champion Wayne DaCosta. Hussey also won aboard MYTHICAL PEGASUS, SWING BY in the 1000 Guiness, RAMPAGE in the 2000 Guiness and EASTERN LIGHT. - IAN ALLEN/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER

BOTH THE Pick-9 and Super-6 star anew at Caymanas Park tomorrow after failing to survive the Guineas Day meeting last Saturday.

Although SONOFAMINSTER scored a huge upset at odds of 236-1 in the second race, one lucky punter cornered the first of the two Super-6s, winning $603,950.50. The Pick-9 was also caught but this did not include the race won by SONOFAMINISTER.

The Pick-9 embraces races two to 10, while the Super-6 will be conducted from race five to 10.

Ten horses from the $350,000 - $340,000 claiming spread are down to contest the fifth race over the straight five course, the field including the recent course winners EASTERN LIGHT and ROYAL MALICE, along with NATURAL PRINCE and RAKKADASH who are fully effective over the course.

Leading jockey Charles Hussey rides ROYAL MALICE this time around and the six-year-old gelding could well resume winning ways now dropped in class.

GOOD FIELD

He beat a good field of high claimers over the course on March 15 on a $410,000 tag and although failing to follow up behind DEAR-DREAMER in his subsequent race on the round course last Saturday, could have the beating of these lesser lights.

Next on the programme is a $160,000 claiming race for the Dr. David 'Jack' Radix Memorial Cup to be contested by 12 starters over the circular nine course. The horses to note are CRIMSON MAGIC, FIASCO who is something of a specialist over the distance and looks tempting at the weights, MAMA'S GIRL who is knocking at the door and not least, SIR CHACHA BABA who gets a glorious opportunity to notch a long overdue win.

Both SIR CHACHA BABA and CRIMSON MAGIC were beaten favourites last time out, but they are basically better than this level when in good shape and with a trophy at stake, I envisage them fighting out the finish.

THUNDER SQUAD, who has been moving impressively at exercise, should give leading jockey Hussey yet another winner in the seventh race over 1400 metres for overnight allowance horses. The four-year-old gelding reports well refreshed from a near four-month absence and is weighted to win from SENOR GATOR (knocking at the door) and BATTLEOX.

Briefly, PRIOR PARK who has proved competitive in his last five races, looks hard to oppose in the eighth race, especially now that he's down in class. Then, take the useful three-year-old filly DATING (working well) to make a winning seasonal debut in the 10th race where JACK BE GOOD and SPANISH SECRETS are main rivals.
