STUDENTS AT University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona participated in a voluntary clean-up of the Palisadoes Strip, Kingston last Saturday.
The 70 volunteers collected 100 bags of garbage, including plastic bottles, caps, lids and other debris. The exercise was part of the foundation's commit-ment to sensitising Jamaica's youth to the need to protect the environment.
The clean-up was part of the UWI Development and Endow-ment Fund's environmental campaign and organised
the UWI Students CARE (Conscious, Active, Responsive and Empowered) Foundation in association with Freshhh Juices.
"This project is a part of our larger environmental initiative in which we utilise various means including beach clean-ups, tree plantings, seminars and workshops to highlight and explore how the nation's youth can help to preserve the environment" said Renée Mair, programme officer of the UWI Development and Endowment Fund.
The Students CARE Foundation is unique in the Caribbean as a student managed and operated voluntary work organisation. It is partnered with the UWI Development and Endowment Fund.
