PRIME MINISTER Dr. Denzil Douglas of St. Kitts and Nevis will give the keynote address at the second Conference on Caribbean Philanthropy, scheduled for May 2 - 5, 2006 at the Rose Hall Resort in Montego Bay, St. James.
Mr. Douglas will speak on how CARICOM can harness philanthropy for social and economic development.
Conference organisers, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Development and Endowment Fund and the United States-based National Centre for Black Philanthropy Inc. hope the conference will give birth
to a philanthropic movement throughout the region. Private sector leaders have been invited to participate with a view to establishing am agenda to generate funds on a sustainable basis for the region.
Other confirmed speakers include actor and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Danny Glover; Earl Jarrett, general manager of Jamaica National Building Society; Rodney Davis, president and chief executive officer of Cable & Wireless Jamaica; Marcia Brandon, general manager of Barbados Youth Business Trust; Ulric Warner, strategic and adminis-tration manager of Phoenix Park Gas Processors Ltd., Trinidad; Dr. Wayne Henry, World Bank; and Mark Connolly, regional advisor on Children and AIDS for UNICEF Panama.
