DESPITE MISSING Jamaica's captain Elaine Davis, Jamalco launch the hunt for a fourth consecutive Berger Super League title, when the competition tips off today at the Leila Robinson Courts.
Initially the Colour Your World Rally, offering a grand prize of $10,000, was supposed to take place but travelling arrangements for the defending champions have put a spike in that cog.
It is not yet known how long Davis' knee injury will keep her out of the game, but she thinks her team will be able to do a very good job without her.
"Jamalco will still do well, there are all the big players still there. There is Nadine Bryan and young Romelda Aiken will do well," said Davis from her home yesterday, just a day after coming out of surgery.
OPENING CEREMONY
Activities begin at 4:00 p.m. with an opening ceremony and a dress parade.
The games will begin at 6:00 p.m. where Jamalco will take on Police 'A', who could provide some good competition if they have the right frame of mind on the day.
Winston Nevers, who coaches Jamalco and is also a part of the coaching staff with Windalco, has to also watch his other charge take up positions against Tivoli 'B'.
Last season Tivoli didn't do very well against the better teams in the competition and will be trying to make a statement this time around.
Arnett Gardens will be enjoying their first taste of the top tier league when they go up against Waulgrovians 'A'.
At 7:15 p.m., Berger Paints Super League action continues with Jetsetters 'A' doing battle with Tivoli 'A', who are anxious to start well.
Alpha 'A' will also be trying to make their mark on the competition when they play Seneca 'A'.
Games in the Supreme Ventures Division C and A, along with Western Union Division 'B' leagues, will take place tomorrow.
UMPIRES' COURSE
At 9:30 this morning, the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) will also be hosting the first of a two-day umpires preliminary
theory course at the St. Hugh's High School.
The course costs $1,000 for non-members and $650 for members.
An examination at the end of the course will be held on April 29 and will carry the same costs.
Day two of the course will be held on April 22.
