Gayle bolsters struggling Lucas
published: Saturday | April 8, 2006

Gayle

WEST INDIES opening batsman Christopher Gayle will be in Lucas' line-up today as they try to avoid relegation against Melbourne in the Supreme Ventures Super Cup seventh round match at Melbourne Oval.

Lucas, who have only one win this season, are struggling in the bottom half of the table.

However, Gayle's inclusion in last weekend's game against Portland helped them to a 10-wicket win. Gayle took five wickets in that match.

Come today though, they will face form team Mel-bourne who took first innings from leaders St. Catherine CC last weekend.

SAMUELS PLAYING TODAY

Marlon Samuels, who missed the Melbourne match last weekend, will play today, along with Carlton Baugh Jr. and Donovan Pagon who also have Test experience. They will be supported by Damion Jacobs, Yanick Elliott, Nikita Miller, Leon Bent and Andre McCarthy.

On paper, the Lucas team is not as bad as their performances have shown this season. Besides Chris Gayle, they have experienced players in Delroy Morgan, Ryan Smith, Wayne Gayle, Gary Herbine, Ashuman Kentish and Omar Burke.

In other top clashes, Manchester face Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) at Kirkvine, while Westmoreland host leaders St. Catherine CC at Allan Rae Oval.

St. Catherine look set to maintain their lead with Bevan Brown, who has taken over 30 wickets, Odean Brown, Jermaine Lawson, Tamar Lambert, Danza Hyatt and Keith Hibbert in their line-up.

TOUGH TIME

Westmoreland, with Anthony Andrews, Dwayne Ewart and Vinard Woolcock could be in for a tough time.

Manchester will be banking on Gary Graham, Orville Pennant, Matthew Sinclair, Andre Dwyer and Donovan Sinclair to take them closer to the leaders, but it will not be easy against the JDF which have Wayne Cuff, Mel Wint, Kamal Dennis and Mark Grey.
