Crying ' wolf ' again?
published: Tuesday | April 11, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir,

THE NEW Prime Minister, Honourable Portia Simpson Miller has been criticised for stating her intention to place pastors on state boards and also that God has appointed her to lead the way.

Many churches have been 'fasting' and praying to God to restore this country to some semblance of civility and sanity. Yet the greater part of the citizenry say that the churches are doing nothing. What better time could any Prime Minister choose to seek God's guidance and the help of people of God, than at a time when 'bloodletting' has become the order of the day? The Epistle of James 2 v 17 states that, "Faith without works is ineffective"; but James 5 v 16 is a true example of how prayer works. Suffice it to say that while I believe that state matters are of a different nature from church matters and should be kept somewhat apart, I firmly believe that the Church should be more involved in a broader sense than just 'praying' and calling for peace. For much too long, it has been said that the Church is doing nothing to stem the problems the country is facing. Now that the Prime Minister has decided to involve the Church, the same 'wolf criers' have begun to cry 'wolf' again. Madame Prime Minister, I humbly beg that you continue to affirm your faith in God, that you continue to seek His guidance and follow through just like people of old who were called by God and worked miracles. You may be just that "voice" that God wants to use to make the difference.

I am, etc.,

ROSE DEWAR
