SALES OF commercial buildings are now the highest they have been for years as 'big things' are happening in the commercial real estate market in Jamaica, Judy Benjamin, sales manager for JN Real Estate Company Limited, has told Jamaicans in the diaspora.
Ms. Benjamin was addressing young professional Jamaicans in Florida, at a recent meeting organised by Jamaica Impact (JAMPACT), an organisation of first and second generation Jamaicans there.
She pointed to the recent sale of a number of several large commercial properties as an indication of the demand for commercial real estate. "Right across the island, financial and other institutions have expanded, as has the demand for their businesses. There has been an inflow in commercial activity in some towns as well as an increase in the demand for smaller office space, for entities such as medical facilities and telecom service providers," she noted.
Citing the new opportunities for investment, she highlighted rural untouched areas, such as Linstead and Ewarton in St. Catherine, sections of Clarendon and Falmouth in Trelawny as potential growth areas.
She observed however, that persons who consider investing in Jamaica sometimes complain about the inefficiencies in the Jamaican system, but some government institutions have improved their services, with agencies becoming more efficient.
