DOMINICA: Carib Indian tribal board to be reinstated
published: Thursday | April 13, 2006

ROSEAU, DOMINICA (AP):

A tribal board that was dismissed by the government will be allowed to resume leadership of Dominica's Carib Indians, the Attorney-General said yesterday.

Attorney-General Ian Douglas said last month's decision to fire the Carib Council after months of infighting between Chief Charles Williams and the six-member council was unlawful and the government must reinstate the tribal board.

Douglas, speaking on state-run radio, said that council members could only be removed if they declare bankruptcy, resign, misappropriate property, or if there is a vote of no confidence by the tribe.
