Ban X-rated adult channels
published: Thursday | April 13, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I THOROUGHLY agree with Joyce Watts when she called for a ban of the X-rated adult television channel.

I throw five open questions to the public:

QUESTIONS

(1) Under which section(s) of the law, do cable companies find permission to offer these channels to the public?

(2) Knowing that children do have access to these channels, doesn't the applicable law(s) give rise to conflict with the mandate given to the office of the child advocate?

(3) Does the office of the child advocate view the ease of access to these channels (remembering that we have an admitted breakdown in responsible parenting as a nation) as a threat to the development of our children?

(4) Is there any organisation currently doing anything about revoking the permissions given to the cable companies for these productions?

(5) Is there anybody else out there who wants an answer to these questions as badly as I do?

I am, etc.,

MARLENE FOOTE
