WITH THE 2005-06 St. James Football Association Hart & Son Senior Football League now on in earnest, only a mere five points separate the top four teams in the 11-team competition, which has Catherine Hall on top with 31 points from 16 games.
"This has been a closely contested competition from the very outset and we are expecting it to remain that way for the remainder of the season," said Lilly-Mae Crawford, the league director for St. James football. "The standings is made even more interesting by the fact that a number of the top teams have outstanding games."
Catherine Hall, which played 16 games, registering nine wins, four draws and three defeats for the 31 points, are a mere one point ahead of Black Diamond, which have played two games less. Seba, which have played 13 games; and Champions, who have played only 12, are in third and fourth places with 30 and 29 points respectively.
STANDINGS
The remainder of the standings read as follows: Reggae Lions - 22 points from 14 games; Tomorrow's People - 21 points from 14 games; Juniors - 21 from 17, Marl Road - 17 from 16; Melbourne - 13 from 16; Montego Bay Boys Club - 13 from 15; and Kings - nine from 14.
In the goalscoring department, a total of 245 have been scored. Catherine Hall and Tomorrow's People jointly have the best offensive records, scoring 28 goals each. Melbourne have the worst defensive record, conceding 34 goals.
The competition, which will see the winning team earning qualification for next season's Captain's Bakery Western Super League, carries a whopping $150,000 winners' purse.
Meanwhile, in the Sandals division one competition which initially started with 12 team but has since been reduced to 11 following the withdrawal of Lottery, Steve Bucknor Knockout Champions, Violet Kickers, with 33 points from 14 games, hold a five-point lead atop the standings.
Kickers, who scored had 10 wins, three draws and just one defeat, is followed by Mountain Villa on 28 points from 15 games; and New John on 26 points from 17.
The remainder of the points standing read as follows: Defenders 25, Seaview 24, Barrett Town 23, Maldon 22, Upton Flames 21, Revelation 19, Glendevon 17 and Somerton 17.
