Nevers-coached teams in showdown
published: Thursday | April 13, 2006

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

THE BERGER Paints Super League will continue with four games at the Leila Robinson Courts today.

The first set of games at 5:45 p.m. will feature Windalco against defending champions Jamalco in a Winston Nevers derby.

Nevers, who is the coach of both teams, will be hard pressed to pick a favourite from the two, especially with the injury problems that have faced Jamalco early in the season. The team will not have Kerry-Ann Brown and Jamaica captain Elaine Davis in its line-up.

However, based on Jamalco's opening performance on Saturday when they demolished Police 'A' 75-35, you expect the defending champions to outlast their sister team.

That prediction finds validation in the fact that Windalco found the going tough against Tivoli 'B' in their opening game.

The 40-39 loss could mean much for Windalco, as Tivoli 'B' struggled to find wins last season and looked a little out of sorts among the big teams.

Despite this, Nevers thinks the game will be a good one.

"It's going to be a good game, Windalco are improving and Jamalco are the seasoned team so they are going to play and try to win this competition again," he said.

"Windalco lost on Saturday and want to prove that they are one of the better teams in the competition so they are going to put out a good fight tomorrow," Nevers added.

Also at 5:45p.m., last year's beaten semi-finalists, Waulgrovians 'A', will go up against Jetsetters 'A'.

On Saturday, Waulgrovians started well by crushing Arnett Gardens 66-23 and will be confident. In the meantime, Jetsetters 'A' will be trying to find their first win after they went down 52-29 to last year's beaten finalists, Tivoli 'A'.

Police 'A' and Seneca 'A', who both suffered defeats on the weekend, will also face each other in a 5:45 fixture.

Seneca's defeat came at the hands of Alpha in a 41-37 affair.

In the other 5:45 p.m. game, Tivoli 'A' will take on Arnett Gardens.
