Glendon Harris - first vice-president, Jamaica Agricultural Society - 'Not enough RADA extension officers available '
published: Monday | April 17, 2006

HARRIS

"DEFINITELY WE are not satisfied with the extension services provided (by RADA). On a wider scale recognising the importance of agriculture in rural development, much more emphasis should be placed on much more officers.

As we were used to, we know that a lot of downswing and rightsizing have been done, but the necessity for extension officers out there are greater today than it was then. At this time when we are looking on the rural development, we find that a significant amount of money is being put into inner-city redevelopment. If you continue to constantly pump money into inner-city redevelopment you will continue to find that you will have the demand growing more and more because people - they say ants follow fat, you will find that the people migrate from the rural community."
