In continuing our spotlight on Spring, Flair highlights the colours and hues that will be ruling the racks in 2006.

SPRING IS a mild and gentle season. It symbolises new life and rejuvenation and the cool spring breeze brings forth a breath of fresh air, free from the taunting heat and humidity of summer. Likewise, the colours of spring 2006 will embody all the relaxing characteristics of the season.

It has long been established that white is the "it colour" for Spring 2006, but wearing white every day isn't practical. Light pastels, pearls, nude and almond tones, are some other colours that convey the mood of spring 2006. Lilac and shades of green will also be popular. Pieces bearing patterns like florals or polka dots are already flying off the racks. Also, metallics will be less blinding in favour of tamer hues for spring going into summer.

MOST POPULAR FABRICS

The most popular fabrics will be those that are lightweight and breathe easily. Linens, sheer cottons, silks, chiffon and other delicate textiles will dominate. Hints of lace will show up on just about everything and crocheted items make for reasonable 'must-haves'.

The fashion gurus have named the 'nautical look' as the strong theme for this season, taking over from bohemian, with fitted sailor pants and nautical stripes being rampant on the runways.

Strong accessories will continue to rule, so items like the wide belt, long-beaded necklaces, and strong bracelets will continue to be trendy. Layering your oversized accessories in contrasting colours is a sure-fire way to add spunk to any demure outfit.

Of course mix and match your black and white separates with your colourful pieces to create new fashionable outfits.

Overall, spring connotes light-hearted fun and levity, and spring fashion with its frivolous colours and cool hues, usually conveys the same meaning.

Pieces were selected at My Closet, Shop # 14, Midway Mall, 40A Manning's Hill Road. Tel: 925-1178.

Prices range from $1,200-$2,600.
