Five persons missing each week
published: Tuesday | April 18, 2006

THE CONSTABULARY Communication Network is reporting that a total of 74 persons have gone missing since the start of the year, averaging almost five disappearances each week.

Yesterday The Gleaner reported that the information arm of the Jamaica Constabu-lary Force was hesitant to reveal how many persons have been reported missing since the start of the year.

The comparative figure for the same period last year could not be obtained yesterday as The Gleaner was referred to the police statistics department.

In 2004, the police reported a total of 1,881 cases of missing persons, of which 1,149, or 61 per cent, were female. There were 732 reported cases of missing males.
