CHOP. WHIP. Liquefy. Grind. Crush. Puree. Blend. Name it and a blender can transform almost any food to a desired result.

Chef Carleto Eubanks, at the Hilton Kingston hotel, says that a blender being a small electric appliance, is versatile making it an important kitchen appliance. The blender, he says, can be substituted for large kitchen equipment in various food preparation purposes.

"For a small machine the blender is unique and flexible. It is very useful for housewives because instead of expensive equipment, the blender can be used as it has different speeds and uses," Chef Eubanks said.

The blender has also become a must-have kitchen tool for those on raw foods diets as it provides a variety in presentation.

USES OF BLENDERS

Some of the useful purposes of blenders are:

At the bar, it is excellent for making soda fountain drinks, frozen drinks, daiquiris and milk shakes (instead of a milk shake machine).

When making soups it blends vegetables thoroughly.

To make sauces, use the blender to mix the spices and herbs together. It also makes the sauce smooth by removing lumps.

Use blender to prepare jerk seasonings for a marinade.

To crush ice especially for a sorbet.

To prepare delicious hors d'oeuvres.

When making baby food as it grinds the food into smaller particles.

To make fruit purees, use blender instead of a food processor.

When making some salad dressings.

When making cakes.
