Ashtrom delivers schedule
published: Thursday | April 20, 2006

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

BRYAN

ASHTROM CONSTRUCTION avoided the bullet of 'immediate application of liquidated damages' when it made Tuesday's deadline for the delivery of a long overdue construction schedule for the upgrading of Sabina Park for Cricket World Cup 2007.

Ashtrom had been citing delays of about a month due to a cement shortage, but was told by Jamaica Cricket 2007, the local organising committee for the Cricket World Cup 2007, that it needed to first submit a construction schedule.

Managing director of Jamaica Cricket 2007, Robert Bryan, had indicated that failure to meet Tuesday's deadline could mean a breach in contract on the part of Ashtrom.

RENEWED SENSE OF CONFIDENCE

With the delivery of the construction schedule, Bryan has had a renewed sense of confidence that Sabina Park will be ready on time.

"I remain convinced that if Ashtrom is focused on getting the work done on schedule, then they are very capable of doing that. The trick is to get them that focused," Bryan explained.

ANALYSING FLOW

Bryan decided against commenting on the details within the schedule, but said his committee was now in the process of looking at it against the actual on-the-ground progress.

"Now that we have that (construction schedule), we have a basis for analysing the flow of the work," Bryan told The Gleaner yesterday.

"This is the first step, and if we can get to that stage then there is no reason that we can't get to the others," he said

Bryan indicated that the assessment of the schedule should only take a day or two and thus a response to it would be forthcoming before the week was out.

"We would have taken a more serious look at it over the next day or two, so we would be able to comment on it by tomorrow (today) or Friday," he said yesterday.
