Jamdown in need of a striving peasantry
published: Saturday | April 22, 2006

Mai'khi C'Nia, Contributor

Thou art in need of a striving peasantry O Jamdown. Yea, the rock could do with less poor people and more purposeful simple folk. For a majority of the poor in Jamdown art slothful, they pursue no vocation; instead they wallow in self-pity and doth not genuinely seek a way to pull themselves out of the financial doldrums.

Verily I say to ye, most of them art devoid of respect for self and others, portraying no pride in how they abide yet paradoxically art shackled by too much pride for they shun certain employment opportunities.

But the same 'tis not so of a true peasantry, for they art the meek that shall inherit all creation. Yea, an unwavering peasantry is solid bedrock upon which the flourishing society constructs an unshakeable foundation. They art not disillusioned about their role in society, but grapple with a simple existence, living off the land or eking out a humble return from the skills or occupations to which they have affixed their aspirations.

Dearly beloved, be ye not perplexed, for the desire to be prosperous and acquire financial means unto thyself is not a transgression, neither is it abominable for any man to hunger after the means to elevate his household to a place of contentment.

But know ye that all men want to be rich, and rich men want to be king? Alas there can be but one monarch in any kingdom. Verily I say to ye, 'tis such hankering within men when not assuaged that breeds contempt and envy, e'en ultimately leads to calamity and retribution.

ADVANCEMENT

Therefore, if thou art not numbered among the upper class, or falleth not in the middle-income bracket, then be ye comforted in the thought that thy contribution to thy people's advancement is of no less significance than that of any other man. Thus, if thou hath a role to play then go ahead and execute with all that thou can muster, for in time the weight of thy performance shall be apparent for all to behold.

And so it is of the contribution made by the noble men of the NSWMA, the same solid waste technicians who ride the back of mobile compactors all day long. Behold, they flitter from street to street in the towns and residential communities, e'en out on the highways and byways making the surroundings tolerable and presentable. They art reliable and go about their business without apparent negative hang-ups or attitudes.

Yet they art hardly acknowledged by ye whom they serve, for whilst they empty our containers in the blazing sun we offer them not e'en a pitcher of water or a morsel of Easter bun and cheese, though we art blessed with an abundance of such commodity over the Lenten period. Nay, we simply overlook them though they pay no regard to such things for at the end of the day they still cart away our refuse much to our satisfaction. Verily I say to ye, these are they who art truly heroes of the unsung variety, and Jamdown is much the better for their humility and dedication.

Hear O Jamdown, for there art many things with which we struggle to get right on the rock. Verily, these are the days when there is much turmoil at the corporate level of solid waste management. Offer up thy respect to the members of that organisation who art getting the job done at the ground level ye land, for it is due to them. Hail them this day and show unto them thy gratitude. Selah.
