THE ST. CATHERINE trio of Danza Hyatt , Dean Morgan and Bevon Brown shone brightly to guide their team to first innings points over St. Mary on yesterday's opening day of the eighth and penultimate round of the Supreme Ventures Super Cup cricket competition.

In the match being played at Chedwin Park, Hyatt scored 164 and Morgan 100 not out to guide St. Catherine to 328 for two declared and possibly the 2006 league title.

In reply, St. Mary were blown away for 101 and then, batting a second time, closed on five without loss.

Brown was the chief destroyer taking 6-28, his 42nd wicket of the season and fifth five-wicket haul.

Earlier, Hyatt, who hit 10 fours, seven sixes and a rare five off 150 deliveries, and Morgan, whose innings was laced with 10 fours and one six off 163 balls, shared in a 235-run opening stand.

AT SABINA PARK: Brian Latore, 130, and Simon Jackson, 107, put Kingston in total control against the Jamaica Defence Force.

FOURTH-WICKET PARTNERSHIP

Latore, who hit 18 fours off 191 deliveries, and Jackson, 12 fours off 221 deliveries, shared in a 266-run fourth-wicket partnership after their side had been reduced to 28-3. Jowayne Robinson chipped in with 68 not out.

At the close, JDF, replying to Kingston's 352 for five declared, were 66 for four.

AT FOLLY OVAL: Defending champions Manchester took first innings points from Portland.

Portland were dismissed for 128 by Donovan Sinclair (5-46), Domain Sangster (3-30) and Stezon Patterson (2-19).

In reply, Manchester closed at an imposing 246 for seven. Orville Pennant, 91, and Gary Graham, 50, led the way against Carl Brissett (3-73).

AT NELSON OVAL: Lucas and Westmoreland were locked in a keen battle for first innings points.

Westmoreland scored 214 with Chris Miller getting 51 not out against the likes of Delroy Morgan (3-18) and Omar Burke (3-70). Lucas closed at 88 for three.

FIRST INNINGS HONOURS

AT ALPART: St. Elizabeth gallantly fought their way to first innings honours over Melbourne, effectively ensuring the Kingston side will have to win outright today to keep alive any hopes of championship honours.

St. Elizabeth were reduced to 27-4 and then 108-8 before injured Tarique Whyte, batting with a runner, and Conroy Miller (18) took them past Melbourne's first innings of 143 in 55 overs.

Howard Powell (41) and Shane Powell (33) also featured in a crucial 59-run fifth wicket partnership for the hosts.

Earlier, Melbourne's top order crumbled as the league's leading scorer, Donovan Pagon, made 20 and West Indies player Marlon Samuels fell to Ainsley Goff for a four-ball duck.

At 29-4, Melbourne were saved from greater embarrassment through a 75-run partnership between Yannick Elliott (50) and Andre McCarthy (33).

Goff was the pick of the St. Elizabeth bowlers with 4-39 while there were three wickets each for Conroy Miller and legspinner Alton Beckford. Melbourne will begin their second innings this morning.
