APPLICATIONS ARE now open for persons wishing to register for the Host Jamaica Bed and Breakfast Home Stay programme for ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
Homeowners with one to four bedrooms available are eligible.
The programme, which will see Jamaican homeowners accommodating fans attending the World Cup event next year, was unveiled by the Ministry of Tourism, Entertainment and Culture during the Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) in Negril on Monday.
The capital city, Kingston and its environs, Trelawny and the tourism mecca Montego Bay, St. James, are the pilot areas being used in the first stage of the project.
Carole Guntley, director general of tourism, told The Gleaner that the undertaking is meant to be an ongoing one, even after the World Cup ends.

According to Ms. Guntley, the World Cup is just a catalyst. "It will mean that people who want to come here and stay in Jamaican homes will be able to, after this is established."
According to the director general, the European, Asian and Caribbean visitors who have supported existing bed and breakfast programmes over the years will continue to sustain it long after the games.
Under the guidance of the Tourism Ministry, the Jamaica Product Development Company (TPDCo) will execute the venture. Already 200 applicants have expressed interest.
Applicant requirements
All applicants must participate in a pre-inspection and evaluation, a 20-hour training exercise.
Each completed application form must be certified by a JP, must have a brief description of the property, public liability insurance and two reference letters.
Insurance is mandatory, stressed Carole Guntley, adding that the ministry had been getting a number of quotes from brokers.
If approved, all participants must provide a guest registry, owner must be present to greet guest upon arrival, each guest must be given a receipt upon departure and a booklet or flyer with emergency services telephone numbers.
