THE EDITOR, Sir:
AS IT seems, supporters of the ruling PNP, and some uncommitted voters are captivated by the recent declaration of the Prime Minister's faith in God. What's wrong with that little country down there? They seem to love anecdotes and epigrams. When will they ever learn that politics and religion cannot work together? These two entities are diametrically opposed to each other and cannot sleep in the same bed.
Sister P, politics is about dealing with the daily commerce of the country. Religion speaks to kingdom principles and man's redemption towards the Creator. Visiting churches and taking photos with some questionable clergymen is not the way to do it, Madame Prime Minister.
You are not the first head of state to declare your faith in God, and calling on the Christian community to support you because you were 'elected by God', is taking a joke too far.
Madame Prime Minister, faith in God alone will not do. It's a lifestyle, a relationship with God that, when SIN presents itself, a righteous indignation burns from the inside that compels you to do something about the immorality and deviant behaviour within the society. Sister P, are you willing to close Caymanas Park, cut out the Lotto and the Cash Pot? What about a truths and rights commission?
God never elects anyone to be head of state for a country. That's the prerogative of the party's delegates and supporters. Please do not let Adolph Hitler smile in his grave.
I am, etc.,
