Pennicook named Air Jamaica's senior VP
published: Friday | April 28, 2006

PENNICOOK

A NEW director of tourism will be selected to replace Paul Pennicook, who has been appointed senior vice-president of sales and marketing for the national airline, Air Jamaica.

Michael Conway, president and chief executive officer of Air Jamaica, yesterday announced the appointment, which takes effect June 1.

"Mr. Pennicook holds a bachelor's degree in hotel management from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. His professional career spans 32 years, all of which have been spent in the hotel, travel and tourism industry," Air Jamaica said in a statement outlining the credentials of the former Jamaica Tourist Board head.

The new Air Jamaica VP served as director of tourism from 2003. Prior to his appointment at JTB, he was president and CEO of Couples Resorts. He has also been a member of the board of directors of Air Jamaica since December 2004.

"We are delighted to have an executive of Paul's calibre joining our team," Mr. Conway said. "His demonstration of talent and energy will be a major boost to our sales and marketing efforts. His relationship with the JTB will be of considerable value as we work together to further strengthen the Jamaica tourism product."

A statement from JTB chairman Dennis Morrison yesterday said a search to find an appropriate replacement for Mr. Pennicook will take place immediately. The statement said Mr. Pennicook will continue to work closely with the JTB to build on the relationship with Air Jamaica as a "crucial partner in the success of Jamaica's tourism."
