SIR KHAN, running at odds of 5-2 with Dane Nelson aboard, moves away from the favourite DIAMOND EXPRESS (Clive Lynch) to win the seventh race over 1500 metres by 6 1/4 lengths at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. - IAN ALLEN/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER
WITH THE fancied holding their own at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, both the Pick-9 and Super-6 failed to survive the day's racing.
Both start anew tomorrow with guaranteed minimum's of $1 million and $500,000 respectively. The Pick-9 will embrace races three to 11, the Super-6 from six to 11. We look at the latter.
It gets under way with a 4-y-o and up restricted allowance race for the Portmore Community Trophy (non winners of two) to be contested by 12 starters over 1100 metres. BLACK RIVER, who has finished second in her last five races, has a glorious chance of going one better and if she loses this time, she should henceforth be named BLACK RIVER II.
Race seven confined to native bred three-year-olds over the circular nine course looks made to order for PRINCE OF LAW, who was an easy winner over 1600 metres on February 3.
Trained by Desmond Shand, the three-year-old son of Law Of The Sea - Seattle Princess looks a cut above his five opponents and having caught the eye at exercise, should lead home OLE KING COLE.
WELL REFRESHED
BREAKING NEWS, reporting well refreshed from a four-month respite, should capture the eighth race for maiden four-year-olds and up over 1200 metres, this for the Dr. Trudi Stewart-Gaynor Trophy to be contested by 14 starters.
Trained by Norman Palmer, BREAKING NEWS finished third to the progressive DOUBLE BOW over the straight five course when last raced on December 17 and prior to that was a good third to SONNY B'GOOD over 1300 metres on December 7, a race in which he enjoyed a good lead into the straight.
With nothing in the lineup such credentials, BREAKING NEWS (working well) should return on a winning note, ahead of OUT OF THE BLUE and TOUCHDOWN.
Race nine for the Roderick 'Pilot' Francis Trophy over 1200 metres (claiming $160,000) looks tailored for the down in class NIJINSKY'S WAR, but he can expect stiff opposition from back-to-form PRODIGAL SON and down-in-class ARDRIGH.
Hat-trick seeker ROYAL COMMAND looks hard to oppose in the 10th race form the Ambassador's Trophy to be contested by six open allowance horses.
