AFTER DOMINATING the local motor racing scene for many years, Jamaica's champion driver, David Summerbell Jr., is looking for new challenges this year.

The 37-year-old Summerbell, who won four of six races at the Dover Raceway in St. Ann on Easter Monday, said he is hoping to win the regional championship again.

"This is a very serious year for me and I am looking forward not only to winning the circuit racing championship at Dover, but also the Caribbean Race Drivers Championship," Summerbell said.

His only disappointment to date was the number of well-prepared cars which turned up at the Dover raceway, but later developed mechanical problems and as a result left some of the top drivers idle for most of the popular Easter race meet.

"Marck Carey's cars were out, so too was Doug Gore, Tedroy Burton, myself and Bull Thompson to an extent," Summerbell said.

FIRST LEG IN JA

The first leg of the Caribbean Championship should have been held here on May 23, but that meet has been rescheduled for June.

The second will be staged in Guyana between October and November.

Thompson, who put in a sparkling performance in the GTS Class at Dover, is among the list of drivers that will be representing Jamaica. The team is likely to include Summerbell, Peter Rae, Burton, Gore and Carey.
