ATLANTA, Georgia:
FORMER PRIME Minister P.J. Patterson has been appointed senior adviser to an international consulting company which has offices in Washington, D.C., New York, Atlanta, Nigeria, Uwanda, Angola and Côte d'Ivoire. The firm, GoodWorks International (GWI), is based in Atlanta.
Mr. Patterson's appointment, which is effective today, comes just one month after demitting office as Prime Minister of Jamaica.
In an exclusive interview with The Gleaner, chairman of GWI and former Mayor of Atlanta, Ambassador Andrew Young, said "for more than 25 years, I have known P.J. Patterson as one of the most respected leaders and we at GoodWorks, are honoured that he has agreed to serve as our senior adviser."
NEW APPOINTMENT
Ambassador Young stated that Mr. Patterson, as senior adviser to GoodWorks, will give counsel when necessary, on matters relating to the developing world. He also stated that Mr. Patterson would not in anyway be doing any projects relating to Jamaica.
When contacted, Mr. Patterson told The Gleaner that offices would be set up in Jamaica to facilitate his new appointment and said, "I will be able to do my writing, engage from time to time in the international lecture circuit and engage in consultancies at the regional and international levels," he said.
Mr. Patterson goes to Washington, D.C. tomorrow where his appointment will be officially announced by Ambassador Andrew Young at a reception at the Ritz Georgetown Hotel, in Washington, D.C. The reception will be attended by ambassadors, congressmen and a host of other dignitaries.
Mr. Patterson will join two other Jamaicans who serve GoodWorks International, Mr. Carlton Masters, president, and Ms. Sylvia Ashley, senior vice-president.

Mr. Patterson now joins the team that offers services to corporations including credible market access, political risk management and transactional negotiation. GoodWorks International was established in 1996 by former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young entrepreneurs Carl Masters and Hamilton Jordan.
The three pooled their experiences in international business, finance and politics.
